Gordon Parks

November 12 - December 11, 2016

In partnership with The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park, The Gordon Parks exhibit displayed the the artistic backdrop to a deeper discussion about America’s African American Troops and the tremendous sacrifices made abroad only to come home to segregation and its limited opportunities. While the primary focus of our tribute were the Veterans of the Vietnam War, we extend heartfelt appreciation to all who have served in the military.

 

Opening Night | November 12 | 4:00 – 7:30 PM

Screening of the film “The Anderson Platoon” winner of the 1967 Academy Award for best documentary. A panel discussion will follow the film. Join Vietnam Veterans, Joseph Anderson, President/CEO Tag Holdings (Featured in the film); Robert “Bobby” McDonald, President Orange County Black Chamber of Commerce; Hakim Alaji, Co-Founder Community Preparatory School and Mr. Norris Charles, Retired Professor Mesa College.

 

November 18 | 1:00 – 3:00 PM

A Discussion with Mr. Craig Werner, Co-Author of the book “We Gotta Get out of This Place, The Sound Track for the Vietnam War”, which was selected by Rolling Stone Magazine as the #1 Best Music Book of 2015. Co-sponsored with the SDSU Veterans Center and will be held in the SDSU Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center at the corner of 55th Street and Hardy Avenue.
