On Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 5:00pm-7:30pm the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art will honor it's 2024 Keepers of the Culture recipients. We are pleased to collaborate with the San Diego History Center as we honor true cultural icons.
Kehinde Wiley's Painting at The Timken!
The San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art is overjoyed to announce the arrival of a stunning painting by the renowned artist Kehinde Wiley at The Timken Museum in Balboa Park. Kehinde Wiley is globally recognized for painting the official Obama Presidential portrait, demonstrating his unique ability to blend the traditional and the contemporary in a powerful and visually compelling way. We are ecstatic to present this masterpiece to our beloved San Diego community.

Say Their Names…nyc Augmented Reality
SDAAMFA is proud to bring the Say Their Names Memorial exhibit to life in augmented reality in Seneca Village/Central Park. The intent of the AR installation does not differ from the one of the physical memorial, which serves “to facilitate conversation[s] around systemic racism while honoring those whose lives have been taken by it.

On Friday, May 27, 2022, the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art honored 2022 Keepers of the Culture, celebrating of Black Heritage.
Say Their Names Memorial 2021
The "Say Their Names" Memorial Exhibit is a memorial honoring individuals who have died at the hands of those perpetuating injustice and systemic racism. This grassroots exhibit had it's start in Portland Oregon and is an outgrowth of the protest that took place nationwide in 2020.
Black Life
Black Life presents a collection of photographs by three prominent photographers, and members of the African American community in Los Angeles during the second half of the 20th century, documenting political events, as well as daily life of this community.
Legacy In Black
The Legacy In Black exhibit in collaboration was installed in collaboration with the San Diego History Center. The exhibit featured the art of African American Artists who are from San Diego or have a significant relationship to San Diego.
Dimensions of Black
In collaboration with the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art (SDAAMFA), the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego presents Dimensions of Black, an exhibition of works by African American artists drawn from the Museum’s own holdings.
Gordon Parks
In partnership with The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park, The Gordon Parks exhibit displayed the the artistic backdrop to a deeper discussion about America’s African American Troops and the tremendous sacrifices made abroad only to come home to segregation and its limited opportunities.
Art from the Collection of Jonathan Green and Richard Weedman
SDAAMFA partnered with the SDSU Downtown Gallery to present an exhibition introducing art from the collection of renowned artist Jonathan Green and his partner and studio director, Richard Weedman.
In Our Lifetime
The museum celebrated its gala opening and its first show this month with the exhibit, "In Our Lifetime" which features a photography display commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.
Question Bridge
This exhibit uses media in a unique format to explore issues that challenge Black males by stimulating conversation among black men across the geographic, economic, generational, educational and social strata of American society.
